TINY KindTreeKids Social Play Days! Ages 3-5
-play-based learning social skills groups-

KindTreeKids with Communication Interventions is excited to open up our programs to TINYS!! These programs will offer a foundation of what KindTreeKids are all about. This will be a platform for them as they age into learning the basics of social skills and build play skills and build group engagement.

Play is where a tremendous amount of learning about oneself, thinking about others, following directions, and language (social and emotional) skills can flourish.  We all know that learning social skills is a key part of child development. Successful social skills allow kids to interact positively with others and communicate their needs, wants, and feelings effectively. Plus, the benefits of robust social skills reach far beyond social relationships and acceptance. We know that it can actually help amplify other areas like confidence, resilience, gratitude, empathy, and compassion. We also know that it’s essential to start teaching these skills early.  Our sessions will send children home regulated, confident, and with the social skills seeds planted for later carryover and practice.  Each session will include an email home that covers the content covered (book links, the vocabulary used, recommendations to do at home, and pictures!)  That’s where you come in by taking that information and using it in all settings and experiences so the material can be truly learned and integrated into everyday challenges. This doesn’t all happen in our groups where all problems get solved, but we do promise to plant all the important seeds!

TOPICS:

January 28 - The Parts of Play
Here we will learn about all of the different parts of play: set up, play, clean up.  By using this concept as we rotate through small groups with the intention of the play structured this way, we see that our Tiny social learners will become collectively more sensitive to others in the group. It even offers a nice prerequisite skill for the executive functioning concepts of keeping time to accomplish group goals.

February 25 - Learning Conversations: Asking a question, adding a thought!
This group session will focus on the early framework of questions and comments when relating to others.  During our play activities, we will practice demonstrating interest by making relevant comments and exploring the many types of early conversation questions to establish speaker/listener dyads with early conversational skills (talking to and with each other on a given topic).

March 24 - Size of My Problem? (Tiny Version)
When we pause and sit with what we are stuck with, it offers us the space to take perspective and make sure our problem size matches our response size!  For our early social learners, we will keep it simple and learn BIG, MeDiUm, and small responses should be about the same size of the problem.  This helps others stay calm and willing to help solve the problem. This very important topic seems to be one that we can keep handy for most of our lives!

April 21 - A Little Calm Spot
Using Diane Alber’s “spot” concepts, A Little Calm SPOT is a story about how using breathing, movement, and mindset can help overcome some of the biggest emotions. We hope to inspire children to try belly breathing and yoga poses that are just right for this age group!

May 26 - A Little Spot of Kindness
Continuing with the “spot” concept, our Tiny KindTreeKids will end our season with kindness, naturally! From saying please to sharing toys, we will learn how to spread kindness in everyday situations at school and home! We have a fun SPOT adventure that we take to practice all the ways to spread and share kindness in this world!
